“With less than six weeks before it plays host to the Olympic sailing regatta, the city of Qingdao has mobilized thousands of people and an armada of small boats to clean up an algae bloom that is choking large stretches of the coastline and threatening to impede the Olympic competition.” (excerpt from article).
China should be looking into converting all this algae into fuel, assuming it can be done. At least they seem to be using it to feed animals and what not.

This seems to be only one of many problems hitting China with only weeks until the start of the Olympics. With water running low, unbearable smog, civil rights issues involving Tibet, and recent natural disasters still looming, amongst other issues, I have no idea how they will pull this huge event off with all of the world watching.

I just started reading Yvon Chouinard’s book “let my people go surfing”. What a great story. I’m not even half way through it and I already know I want to live my life like him. Not only is he brilliant and incredibly ahead of his time, he lives (and has lived) his life like most of us can only dream of.
Chouinard, the founder and owner of Patagonia, considers his highly successful outdoor clothing and climbing gear company as an experiment and model of how businesses should (and must) be run going forward. I’m sure if you read his book that you’ll quickly agree.
